Saving Colombian wildlife with the Rainforest Trust

Michelle Parkes ·

Earth Cubs are proud supporters of the incredible work that Rainforest Trust undertakes and we'd like to highlight one of their recent projects.

Rainforest Trust is working to safeguard a cloud forest in Colombia, in partnership with Wildlife Conservation Society-Colombia.

Located on the eastern slopes of the Andes, the Chuchilla de San Juan protected area is an exceptionally biodiverse ecosystem - home to 1,636 species of animals and plants including Pumas, Spectacled Bears, Northern Tiger Cats, and Colombian Night Monkeys.

Rainforest Trust's latest project aims to double the size of this protected area, expanding it to 72,013 acres. Despite its importance, the region was off-limits for conservation for 20 years due to armed conflicts. However, since a peace treaty was signed in 2016, the area is once again open to threats such as agricultural expansion, road developments, mining and illegal logging of high-value timber to name a few.

Donations to this project will help Rainforest Trust to secure this precious forest against these new threats. How about running a Rainforest Trust charity day at your school?
