Lesson steps

Before the lesson begins, mark out a safe space for the children to move around.

Recap the lesson Rising Sea Levels. Ask the children to explain what rising sea levels means and what they think they could do help stop this.

To warm up, use dice to spin and see which animal the class should act out with their bodies.

Talk to a partner about what action you would take and share with the class. Your action will make a sequence. Break the action up into 3 small parts. Your 3 moves will tell a story, children guess what the moves represent in each other’s stories as they perform their sequence

Apply your skills and perform your sequences to Arctic music! Evaluate each other's performances and add more to your sequence.

Discuss climate action by working in small groups and follow Melati’s tips for becoming a change maker.

Choose a problem, the more specific the better. Work with others to find a solution.

Consolidate your knowledge about the Arctic and climate change. Talk about everything you have learned. Remember all the ways you could take action.

For example, turning the lights off, riding your bike, planting flowers and walking to school.
