The food we eat should provide us with the right nutrients to grow and keep our bodies healthy. Our diet is the type of food we eat.

To stay healthy we need a varied diet that ensures it has all of the five food groups.

What are the five food groups?

Fruit and vegetables

Fruit and vegetables give us vitamins, helping our immune system digestion.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates give us energy

Proteins

Proteins help our bodies to grow and repair

Dairy

Dairy gives us strong teeth and bones

Fats and oils

Fats and oils store energy for when we need it

Keeping it balanced!

We need to eat fatty foods that contain lots of sugar on occasion. They don’t give our bodies any nutritional value.

What would an unhealthy diet look like?

How often do you eat treat food?

Healthy and unhealthy drinks

What drinks are Healthy? Many soft drinks are high in sugar.

Water is a healthy as it contains no sugars that can damage teeth.
