This short video from Earth Cubs introduces Step 6 of the Eco-Schools programme: Monitoring and Evaluation. It is the point where a school looks back at the work in its action plan and asks how much difference it has really made.
The video explains how an Eco-Committee can assess the impact of its topic work. It covers what worked well, what needed to be adapted, and how the committee could develop its eco-actions in the future. The idea children take away is that checking our progress helps us do better next time, and that looking after the planet is something we keep improving on together, in partnership with others.
It is a useful resource for teachers and Eco-Coordinators who are working through the Eco-Schools steps, and it suits both younger and older primary pupils. After watching, you could ask: What have we done so far? What went well? What would we change? Then try a simple review activity. Pupils could draw or write one thing that worked, one thing to adapt and one new idea on separate sticky notes, then share them with the Eco-Committee to shape the next set of eco-actions.
