Railway Adventure

The Geezer Rats are off on a railway adventure! Learn why the train is so much better than taking the car!

Why Taking the Train Beats the Car

In Railway Adventure, the Geezer Rats head out of London for a day at the seaside in Margate. Geezer Rat is the king of "Did you know?" facts, and he explains why the train is a better way to travel than the car. There is a catchy singalong too, with a chorus that begins "Let's all get the train. Choo-choo-choo." Quiz Jaguar pops up at the end with a quick quiz to check what everyone has learned.

Children learn that trains create less pollution than cars and can carry more people, which means fewer vehicles and fewer traffic jams on the road. They also hear that trains deliver goods to shops and supermarkets, so there are fewer lorries about. The episode talks about enjoying nature from the train window, and about putting rubbish in the bin and recycling when you get off. It is a friendly introduction to sustainable travel for ages 3 to 7.

To use it at home or in class, ask children how they like to get around. The episode mentions walking, cycling, scooting and even pogo sticks. Then try the questions from the end of the film: could you walk to school instead of taking the car, or take the train to visit a relative? Children could draw their favourite journey and label how they would travel, or play the quiz again and see who remembers the answers.
