Module 1

Energy Literacy 101

Welcome to the Earth Cubs and National Grid Digital Energy Literacy Fellowship! Over the programme you'll build a closer connection to energy: staying safe, where it comes from, how it shows up in everyday life, and how our personal actions add up to a collective, sustainable future.

Module 1 sets up the features you'll see in every module: a teaching and learning section, resources from Earth Cubs and National Grid, provocations, and simple but effective calls to action. The content is energy literacy 101. What energy literacy actually means, plugs and staying safe around them, the times, spaces and places we use energy, how it fits into our personal lives, and how it all connects to the big picture of the United Nations Global Goals.

We'll also take a closer look at the Earth Cubs approach to edutainment and how you can bring it into other areas of your teaching. Get started with the provocations, like 'How did you learn about energy safety and plugs?', to set up high-quality conversations with your young learners and go deeper into energy literacy.

  • Explain what energy literacy means, starting with plugs and staying safe around them.
  • Spot the times, spaces and places we use energy, and connect them to the big picture of the UN Global Goals.
  • Bring the Earth Cubs edutainment approach into other areas of your teaching.
  • Use provocations and calls to action to open up high-quality energy conversations with young learners.
