A day in the life of the Super Slow Sloth

Michelle Parkes ·

Hello Earth Cubs! I’m the Super Slow Sloth.

Want to know why I’m so slow?! My stomach is in 4 parts and it can take a month for me to digest my dinner. Digesting food takes up a lot of my energy.

I may take things slowly, but I’m actually 3 times stronger than your mum or dad! From the moment I was born, I could do pull ups with one arm. I’d be pretty awesome down at the gym.

My mate Steven once ate a watch. It was very time consuming!

I’m a bit embarrassed. You’ve actually caught me in the middle of my weekly poo! Want to have a boogie with me?! I do a little dance when I get to the bottom of the tree and dig a small hole to poo in. My poo is so big, I lose a third of my body weight!

My ancestors were pretty big. They were called giant ground sloths and some were over 6 meters tall.

As I’m blind in bright sunlight, I have an amazing sense of smell and great awareness of my surroundings. I can even sleep upside down as I have special tendons in my hands and feet that lock into place. But this doesn’t stop me falling out of a tree around once a week. My body has been well designed for falling though. I can fall the same height as 12 double decker buses and still (slowly) walk away!

I might not be the best of runners like my friend Antonio the Anteater, but I’m an awesome swimmer. I can swim much faster than I move on the ground. I’m going to start up syncronised sloth swimming.

I’m my own Bug-ingham Palace. There are around 950 moths and beetles living in my fur! I’ve even got my own ‘sloth moth’! The fungi and algae living in my fur makes me look green. What’s even more exciting is that scientists think I could hold cures for some types of diseases like cancer.

I’m feeling a bit philo-slothical as I’ve been reading the snoozepapers today. It says that lots of the Brazilian Rainforest is being cut down to make way for cattle. Or even palm trees to make palm tree oil. I wish that people would eat a bit less meat as I worry that my home may get destroyed one day.

Thank you for learning the world with me, why not check out one of my videos?!
