Climate relay

Michelle Parkes ·

On July 11th I was delighted to take part on the last day of the epic Climate Relay!

Taking place over 32 days, over five thousand people ran, walked, cycled, swam padded, skied and surfed the 2,661km route! From Ben Nevis to Big Ben, the relay helps to shine a bright light on climate action and nature.

They are calling on everyone - from national government to local government, from individuals to communities and schools to businesses. Work together and protect our world now and for future generations.

It was such a pleasure to take part on the last day of the relay with my plogging buddy Otis the dog, Nathan from Ford (and his incredible electric van) and Darren from The Green Runners.

We started our day at Leaside Trust which is a beautiful sanctuary in the middle of a busy city! It was incredible to see the amazing protest signs some of the pupils had made.

Then we got to making some impact! We took out a small group of students and got to clean up the local area. Amazing what you can find when you dig through the bushes! The kids loved being involved and were amazed at the amount of rubbish they found.

Following the baton throughout the day, Nathan, Darren and I were able to pick up vast quantities of rubbish. We especially loved Newham's way of sorted the rubbish. You can put everything into one sack and it automatically gets sorted in their processing centres.

It was an inspiring day. To see so many passionate people take part and lend their voices, really does give me a lot of hope for the future. I look forward to bringing the message to lots of schools next year and getting our amazing Earth Cubs assemblies to 1000s of pupils during the relay!
