Elephants for Africa

Michelle Parkes ·

It was incredible to be recognised at the Global Good Awards, but also fantastic to meet the other nominees and winners. We were fortunate to chat to the amazing Kate from Elephants for Africa.

Elephants for Africa promotes the conservation of African savannah elephants through research and education in schools and community collaboration in Botswana. They work on a holistic approach to understand and support not only elephants but local people. Working towards a harmonious coexistence.

Sadly less than 500,000 elephants remain in the wild. Not only are poachers still killing them for ivory, but expanding human populations are leading to conflict with human settlements.

At Earth Cubs we really love their education program. They work with international, national and local stakeholders to improve the long-term survival of elephants and the quality of life of local communities. Their partnerships with local Botswana primary schools gives hands on learning experiences and opportunities to meet local role models. Inspiring the young children and hopefully leading to careers in conservation!

Did you know?

Elephants hate chillies! Local community members are encouraged to grow their own chilli to help protect their crops. They add dried chilli to dung, make chilli bricks and burn them.

How can you help?
