Climate Change

Presentation covering climate change and how it's changing of weather patterns over a number of years.

Climate Change

What is Climate Change?

Climate Change is the changing of weather patterns over a number of years.

The planet is getting hotter.

This is because of the things humans are doing every day.

This puts all life and the planet at risk.

What are Greenhouse gases?

Gases that are created from farming and industrial processes are known as greenhouse gases.

These harmful gases include: Carbon dioxide CO2, Methane CH4, Nitrous acid N20

Greenhouse gases form a layer around the Earth.

This is like a blanket around the Earth. The blanket traps heat from the Earth’s surface.

It also stops it from going back out to space.

Greenhouse gases make sure our planet is the right temperature.

We need greenhouse gases so life can survive.

Too many greenhouse gases will cause problems for the planet.

What is global warming?

Greenhouse gases are increasing. This is due to human activities.

This means the Earth gets hotter. This is known as global warming.

Burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.

This provides us with energy for heating and electricity.

Most transport needs fossil fuels.

Deforestation

Cutting down trees.

There are now fewer trees to absorb gases e.g. carbon dioxide.

Industrial processes

Manufacturing industry is heavily responsible for burning fossil fuels.

Landfills

Even waste left to rot produces gases!

Why is Climate Change a problem for the planet?

As a result of increased greenhouse gases our planet is having more extreme weather.

More droughts, forest fires, hotter temperatures, flooding and storms.

Research Challenge

Can you find out more about climate change?

Choose one thing that you want to change in your school!

Global Goals

There are 17 things to do on the Global Goals list!

Earth Cubs work with planet saving partners to work towards the Global Goals!

How can you help climate change where you live? Can you think of other ways you can help?

Save water by turning off the taps.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Repair!

Support charities that protect trees.

Use less paper.

Eat less meat.

Walk short journeys.

Plant flowers to encourage biodiversity.

The End!
