What is the Arctic?

The Arctic is at the most northern part of the Earth.

It is also known as the Arctic region.

The Arctic is made up of the Arctic Ocean and parts of these countries:

It’s very cold!

The Arctic is one of the coldest, windiest and most remote places on our planet.

It is a sea of ice, surrounded by cold, treeless lands. It has large icebergs.

Summer

During the summer, there are times when it doesn’t ever get dark – even at midnight!

In the Arctic Circle, there is at least one day every summer which the sun doesn’t set. 
This is known as Midnight Sun.

Winter

During the winter, there are times when the sun doesn’t rise – even at lunch!

There is one day in the winter during which the sun doesn’t rise. 
This is known as the Polar Night.

Aurora

The Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, is often visible in the Arctic.
