A day in the life of Frankie the Fox
Michelle Parkes ·
Good evening Earth Cubs! I’m Frankie the Fox!
I’d like to show you around my home, the big city of London. I’m an urban fox but a lot of my relatives are part of the country set. They wear a lot of tweed.
Want to come and join me on an adventure?
I mostly come out at night as that’s when there is more food around and less humans. I love insects, worms and fruit but half of my diet is leftovers from your bins and rubbish! Chicken Wings are my favourite.
My favourite hobby is dancing - I’m pretty good at the foxtrot.
My home is called an earth and I dug mine under a shed. Some of my friend’s live amongst tree roots and next to noisy railways! One of my fox mates was so sneaky - he moved into the Shard skyscraper on the 72nd floor!
There are foxes all over the world. We can live anywhere from cities to the countryside to huge mountains.
We can even live in the Arctic! Have you met my friend Bjerk? He lives in the Arctic, I bet his nose is freeeeezing!
Some people think I’m very noisy. Us foxes use barks, whines and different sounds to communicate with each other. Sometimes I get very cross with people who don’t clean up after themselves and hooooooooowl all night long.
My friends the Parky Pigeons hate litter too. Litter is a BIG problem in cities.
I like eating leftover food - but it is very dangerous, sometimes I accidentally eat bits of plastic that have been thrown on the floor by humans. It makes me and other animals very sick.
Want to hear a joke?
I once applied for a job as a litter collector. They asked if I had any experience - I said I would ‘pick it up’ as I went along! 😂 🦊
What can you Earth Cubs do to help?
1. You can take part in a litter pick! You just need a pair of gloves and maybe a litter picker. Wash your hands after!
2. Use your bicycle more! Air quality in cities is really bad. If we stopped using the car as much we could make the air much cleaner to breathe.
3. Plant some trees! Trees are great to help with air quality but they also help to make cities cooler. They attract lots of insects and wild animals and give them a new home!
